Who are we?

Exploring the Mizen byways on foot.

The Fastnet Trails project is developed and maintained by a group of enthusiastic volunteers who live and work in the Mizen area. The project started in 2015 and the first trails were established soon after with trailheads at Lisheen, Kilcoe and Ballydehob. Great oaks from little acorns grow, as they say (14th C proverb) and so have the Fastnet Trails developed and the committee now includes volunteers from Skibbereen right through to Crookhaven.

This page describes the Fastnet Trails Committee and the motivation behind the project, sources of funding etc etc.

Would you like to get involved?

Helping to develop a new trail.

The committee has lots of little tasks that need to be done each year and many hands make light work as they say. So, if you’d like to help, these are the sort of things we need to do to maintain and develop the Fastnet Trails:

  • routine committee work, paperwork, minutes, finances etc
  • checking the trails for damage and safety
  • routine reporting to Irish Trails
  • funding applications
  • repairs to paths, signs etc
  • development of new trails/routes/walks
  • PR – website, Facebook and Leaflets

If you think you might be able to help, contact us and we’ll invite you along to meet us and see how we can get you involved in a project which suits your abilities and time. If you have lots of time or just the odd day here and there – it all helps.
